- On or about 07-Apr-96 02:39:33 Remco van Hooff typed the following words about
- "Re: Thor can't open socket.library". My reply is thus...

- Hi Remco,

- RJD>> Oh "msgs"=messages msgs sounded like a Chinese food spice.:)
-
- RvH>:.D well 'msgs' is a quite often use abbreviation.
-
- RJD>> explanation after each line. Arexx was introduced that way, but few
- RJD>> progranmmers take the time out to explain each line.
-
- RvH> That's because ARexx is a scripting language, meaning that it isn't
- RvH> compiled before you can run it. Adding comments to Arexx scripts will
- RvH> only slow it down when it is executed.
-
- RJD>> makes one book a better teacher than another is: SIMPLY AND WELL
- RJD>> EXPLAIND TERMS AND EXAMPLES. Obvious as it is few are the teachers that
- RJD>> follow it. Isn't learning exiting? makes one so self suficient like
- RJD>> breathing fresh air! :)
-
- RvH> I learned ARexx on my own. I only have the AmigaDOS ARexx manual and a
- RvH> bunch of scripts (commented and uncommented). I started changing the
- RvH> scripts and learn from the failures those changes produced, as a matter
- RvH> of fact I learned a lot more of my own mistakes than of peeking at the
- RvH> codes of others. I did have a programming background when I started to
- RvH> learn ARexx, at school we had to learn a little TurboPascal. But this
- RvH> would only cover some basic things to make my own programs to do
- RvH> calcultions, etc.
-
- I learned Arexx on my own also. One of the best features IMO is the trcse
- console. If you get a particularly sticky error you can always trace the
- program line by line. I don't think any programer should write a major
- application without an Arexx port. One of the most complete Arexx
- implementations of Arexx in a program is Thor. There is almost nothing you
- can't do in Thor with Arexx. :<) :<)
